The Airdrie 1st Club will host its seventh annual Sirens Hockey Game on November 29 from 2:30 to 5 pm at Ron Ebbesen Arena.
“We encourage residents to participate because it is so much fun! This is a family event, so bring the kids,” says Jo-El Buerlen, president of Airdrie 1st Club.
“It also supports a great cause — the Airdrie 1st Hamper Program, which has been a vital resource in the city of Airdrie for 47 years.”
The charity event features a friendly match between Airdrie firefighters and local RCMP officers in support of the Airdrie 1st Hamper Program. The program helps families, seniors, and individuals in Airdrie experience a joyful holiday season. One hundred percent of donations go directly to those in need, thanks to the volunteer-driven nature of the club.
Last year’s game raised about $3,000 through the 50/50 raffle, cash donations, and the toy collection.

“We are grateful for every donation, as each one is truly appreciated,” adds Buerlen.
“Everyone attending is there for a good cause and will truly enjoy themselves. There’s lots of cheering and an opportunity to help those in our city who need a little hand up.”
Admission is by donation. Consider bringing family games, kids’ toys, teen gifts, adult gifts, gift cards, or monetary donations for the more than 380 hampers that are anticipated to go out this year.
“Personally, the best part of the game for me is the playful riff between the firefighters and the RCMP,” says Buerlen.
“They put so much effort into this, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the partnership we’ve built over the years. There are toy boxes set up for the firefighter and RCMP, so come on out and see which one collects the most this year.”
