A vibrant tapestry of music, dance, and rich tradition is set to fill the community as Latin Fest returns on August 22. Organized by the Latins in Airdrie Society, this free, family-friendly celebration invites residents of all ages and backgrounds to immerse themselves in the warmth and energy of Latin culture.
Running from 11 am to 4 pm at Inspire Airdrie, the second annual festival promises a packed schedule of immersive cultural experiences. Visitors can look forward to live cultural performances showcasing music and dance from across Latin America. Younger attendees will find plenty to keep them engaged with dedicated children’s activities organized by Youth Airdrie and the Airdrie Public Library, along with free face painting.
“Our goal is to share the richness, colour, and vibrancy of Latin culture with the Airdrie community,” says Lore Perez, president of the Latins in Airdrie Society.
“We want to create an inclusive space where people of all backgrounds can come together to celebrate diversity, learn about different traditions, and enjoy an unforgettable cultural experience.”
Art enthusiasts are in for a special treat with The Heartbeat of Mexico, an art exhibition by Emmanuel Partida. The showcase features stunning original works, including traditional alebrijes — intricately crafted and painted Mexican folk-art sculptures.
“This exhibition invites viewers to slow down, immerse themselves in colour, and experience the rhythm of a nation whose heartbeat can be felt through its art,” says Perez.
“The Heartbeat of Mexico is an invitation to celebrate diversity, resilience, joy, and the enduring power of creativity that continues to define the Mexican spirit.”
Partida is a plastic and scenic artist, who was born and raised in a small town in Mexico.
“For me, animals and plants and all nature itself is the purest form of art made by the universe, that’s what I try to convey in my pieces, where the vibrant colour reflects the intensity of what I want to express,” says Partida.
In addition to the art exhibition, Latin Fest is also introducing several exciting upgrades to elevate the experience. For the first time, the festival will take place indoors, offering a more comfortable and accessible environment for all who attend.
The lineup of entertainment has grown significantly. Perez notes that this year features an expanded roster of artists representing Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico, and Peru, capped off by a live closing band to end the afternoon on a high note.
“Come and experience the incredible energy, music, dance, art, and flavours of Latin America,” says Perez. “It will be a vibrant celebration of culture, community, and connection that you won’t want to miss.”
Organizers expect to host about 16 vendors at the venue. Attendees can explore an artisan market with craft vendors and non-profit organizations, or sample authentic Latin cuisine from indoor vendors and food trucks stationed outside the library.
