Season of Giving | Ways to Give Back in Airdrie This Season

Story by Josie Randall

Fall 2024

The holiday season is a time for giving, and Airdrie is home to a number of worthy organizations offering help to those in need right here in our community.

Whether you want to donate warm clothing, food, or funds—or even volunteer your time—there’s a way for everyone to make a difference.

Here’s how you can help bring joy to our community this holiday season.

Stephens Backpack Society

Stephens Backpack Society focuses on providing essentials for those in need. They are currently accepting donations of hats, mittens, blankets, and other cold-weather gear. You can also donate online to their ‘Christmas Backpack’ campaign to help fill backpacks with essential items for someone in need. Visit StephensBackpacks.com for more information.

Airdrie Food Bank

The Airdrie Food Bank is working hard to meet increasing food demands. Monetary donations go toward purchasing fresh produce, proteins, and pantry staples. Most-needed items include canned goods, dry pasta, cereal, and baby supplies like formula and diapers. Non-perishable food donations can be dropped off at local grocery stores or the Food Bank itself. Learn more at AirdrieFoodBank.com.

Airdrie Health Foundation

Honour a loved one with a $10 donation to the Tribute Tree, supporting healthcare initiatives in Airdrie. Each donation adds an ornament with your loved one’s name to the tree at the Airdrie Community Health Centre. Funds raised will support essential programs and equipment. Donate before December 24 at AirdrieHealthFoundation.com.

Airdrie Meals on Wheels

Support Airdrie Meals on Wheels through their Virtual Christmas Tree Decorating event. Every donation buys a virtual ornament and helps provide affordable, nutritious meals to clients throughout the colder months. Find out more at AirdrieMealsOnWheels.ca.

Airdrie Hospice

This holiday season Airdrie Hospice is looking for donations for their ‘Comfort Kits’ with items like quilts, herbal teas, soft socks, and large-print word books to bring peace and care to those in need. Gift cards for essentials such as medical supplies, Ensure, and mattress covers are also welcomed. Learn more at AirdrieHospice.ca.

Airdrie P.O.W.E.R.

Airdrie P.O.W.E.R. operates a day shelter for women and children escaping domestic abuse. They’re seeking donations of period products, grocery store gift cards, and funds. Bottle refund donations can also be made at the north Hometown Bottle Depot. For more ways to help, visit AirdriePOWER.com.

Community Links

Community Links is a non-profit registered charity that provides a variety of valuable programs and services to community members of all ages living in Airdrie and area. This holiday season, you can support Community Links by making a monetary donation at mycommunitylinks.ca/donate or by donation of mitts/gloves to help community members prepare for cold winter months.

Kalix Legacy Foundation

The Kalix Legacy Foundation helps financially challenged families cover program fees, training costs, and equipment expenses, ensuring every child has the chance to participate in sports. You can support their mission this holiday season by donating gently used sports equipment, silent auction items, or monetary contributions. Learn more by visiting kalixlegacyfoundation.com.
