Why airdrieFEST Is the Heart of the Community

Story by Stacie Gaetz

Summer 2025

airdrieFEST is the perfect example of how humble beginnings can transform into iconic events.

What started as a small community celebration in 2010, has grown to become a signature event and major street festival that attracts more than 7,000 attendees each year. This year’s can’t-miss event will take place in downtown Airdrie on September 6 from 11 am to 4 pm.

“airdrieFEST is a signature event by the City of Airdrie that showcases all things local,” says Kendal Mason-Hooper, event services coordinator at the City of Airdrie.

“Fifteen years after its start, it has become a major festival. We have over 150 vendor booths showcasing the best of Airdrie, alongside performances that you wouldn’t want to miss.”

The event is an outdoor street festival that celebrates everything local. From artisans, businesses, non-profits, sports groups and more, it is a free family-friendly event for people of all ages that features live music, entertainment, vendors offering local items, and a variety of activities for families.

“The event is free to attend and is family friendly,” says Mason-Hooper.

“Getting roped into the performance from the buskers at the event or delighted by the line-up of food options at Taste of Airdrie are just a few of the unexpected surprises the event offers.”

New this year, Airdrie Transit will provide a free shuttle service to the event so residents can park at one of the following locations and look for the Airdrie Transit shuttle leaving for Towerlane Mall every 10 to 15 minutes:

  • Nose Creek Regional Park – Pickup out front of Airdrie Festival of Lights Off-Lease Dog Park
  • AE Bowers School
  • Muriel Clayton School

The event will also include Kellie Carter Designs Annual Maker’s Market at the Lutheran Church of the Master where talented local creators, artisans, and makers will be showcasing their work.

After picking up your local treasure at the market, don’t miss Mainstreet Music Fest hosted by Main Street BBQ. This event takes place on September 5 and 6 and includes live music, food trucks, beer gardens, and mechanical bull riding. Minors are allowed until 8 pm.
