Keith Wilkinson, affectionately known as ‘Mr. Airdrie’ possessed a spirit that defied boundaries. His was the outstretched hand, the guiding voice, the person you could always count on for assistance and valuable advice.
Tragically, on January 2, 2023, Keith’s sudden passing left an immense void that was felt by many and will never be truly filled.
Among Keith’s remarkable contributions to the community, one of the most notable was his involvement in founding 100 Airdrie Men Who Give A Damn, a group dedicated to fundraising for local charities. Keith’s dedication also extended to the Airdrie Lions Club, the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce, and the orchestration of cherished events like the Canada Day and Santa Claus parades. Additionally, Keith played a pivotal role in the 2011 “Raise the Rinks” campaign, aimed at raising funds for the construction of the Genesis Place Twin Arenas.
Keith was also a devoted friend and family man.
Friends always knew they could count on him to lend a hand or offer unbiased advice, and both treasured their time spent together – chosen family.
His wife, Sandra, was his rock, and he assumed the role of husband and father in the best way possible. Every time he had a conversation with his friends or colleagues, it circled back to those three special people and the impact they had on his life. He was willing to support his family in any way that they needed.
In his memory, we institute this annual award to honor an individual who exemplifies Keith’s grace and devotion to family, friendship, and community.
To some, Keith’s willingness to help might seem like an immense effort, but it was just another Tuesday to him. He wasn’t saving the world, he wasn’t saving the day, he was being Keith. Keith’s legacy will always be a guiding light in our community.
