Klare’s Korner donates poppy ceremony pillows

Story by Wendy Aubut

Fall 2025

Klare’s Korner – Quilts n’ More, brings you a quilting experience. Quilting more than just fills a need. It brings us comfort, friendship, art and camaraderie. I am thrilled that I was able to find a business in one of my passions.

When my Dad passed away in 2022, the Airdrie Legion Branch 288 did a poppy ceremony in his honor and memory. At the time we the family had to provide an 18″ square red pillow for the ceremony to which legion and family members would pin their poppies.

The loss of a loved one is never easy, and the finite details of a service are difficult and overwhelming. So after laying Dad to rest, and being a fabric shop owner, I made the choice to take this one small task off the families long list of to do’s.

So now in memory of my father, and for the past 3 years, I make and donate the poppy ceremony pillows to the Airdrie Legion whenever they ask.

I don’t share this to receive accolades, I share this because every time I am given the honor to ease the burden of a veterans family that have lost a loved one, I am given the gift of remembering my Dad and all he gave to us, the Canadian Army (which is how he met our mom), and the City of Calgary Police service.

“We will always remember.”
