Bert Church LIVE Theatre will be the host to a magical Christmas story starring our very own city.
Nose Creek Players will perform All Roads Lead to the Station: An Airdrie Christmas Story on December 19 at 7:30 pm and December 20 at 2 and 7:30 pm.
“Bert Church LIVE Theatre brings a different holiday show each year, and it is perfect gift or opportunity to spend quality time together in the holiday season,” says Daunia Del Ben, City of Airdrie arts program coordinator.
“It’s a family friendly play and suitable for all ages.”
The play is set in 1917, and 14-year-old Peter Harris has been uprooted from his home in Nova Scotia and sent to stay with his Uncle Hubert in the small but bustling town of Airdrie. With his sister serving as a nurse overseas to help with the war efforts, Harris dreads having to spend Christmas away from his home, his sister and everything he holds dear to him.
While in Airdrie, he starts working at his uncle’s general store and soon meets the colourful folks of Airdrie, each with their own holiday hopes, hardships and humour. Through these encounters, Peter begins to understand that Christmas isn’t just about where you are — it’s about the people who make a place feel like home.
“On top of being a moving Christmas story, this one talks about Airdrie, its people, and its places,” says Del Ben.
“The well-established theatre company (Nose Creek Players) has always brought joy to Bert Church stage, and this story will definitely touch the audience’s heart.”
The play was written by Haley Day, a local playwright, actor, and theatre instructor. Day serves as the Youth Advocacy Director for the Nose Creek Players Board of Directors and is dedicated to inspiring the next generation of performers and creators. In fact, Haley wrote All Roads Lead to the Station: an Airdrie Christmas Story specifically to include roles for young performers. Learn more and get your tickets (until December 14) at airdrie.ca.
