Discover, Play, Connect: Airdrie Launches Sports Try-It Week

Story by Stacie Gaetz

Fall 2025

Are you looking to discover new ways to get active without the pressure of long-term commitments or costs? Airdrie Sports Try-It Week aims to do just that.

Presented by the Airdrie Sports Council, in partnership with Healthier Together Airdrie, Sports Try-It Week will take place from September 20 to 26 at venues around the city.

This new community initiative invites residents of all ages, abilities, and experience levels to explore a wide range of sports in a fun, supportive, and inclusive environment. From adaptive programs and recreational fitness classes to team sports and family-friendly activities, Sports Try-It Week gives residents the opportunity to “get in the game.”

“Sports Try-It Week is all about creating opportunities,” said Jay Raymundo, Healthier Together Airdrie member and event organizer.

“For families and children who have been curious about trying a sport but haven’t yet had the chance, this is the perfect time. It’s a safe, fun way to ‘try it before you buy it.’”

Supporting Local Sport and Wellness

Beyond encouraging residents to get moving, the event highlights local businesses, gyms, and recreation organizations that fuel Airdrie’s sport and wellness sector. By participating, individuals and families are investing in the community and helping to strengthen the local sport and recreation sector in Airdrie.

You can expect to take part in guided sessions with local coaches and instructors with all equipment provided. There will also be opportunities to connect with local sport organizations, gyms, studios and community.

“The activities are designed for everyone – no experience required,” says Raymundo.

The Airdrie Sports Council is a not-for-profit organization that connects, supports, and advocates for sport in Airdrie, with a mission to enhance community wellness through accessible, inclusive, and affordable opportunities.

Healthier Together Airdrie is a coalition made up of Primary Care Alberta (formerly Alberta Health Services), the City of Airdrie, and local community partners and leaders. Its mission is to build an inclusive, connected, and healthy Airdrie where everyone feels they belong.

Raymundo adds that Sports Try-It Week is a community effort that extends beyond the Airdrie Sports Council and Healthier Together Airdrie.

“The participation and commitment of local coaches, organizations, and volunteers make the event possible and help highlight accessible and enjoyable physical activity opportunities for the community,” he says.
