airdrielife is pleased to announce the 2024 recipient of the Anne Beaty Memorial Scholarship

Fall 2024

airdrielife is pleased to announce the 2024 recipient of the Anne Beaty Memorial Scholarship. Brielle Aalhus is a first year International Business student at the University of Calgary.

“Firstly, I have to acknowledge just how honoured I am to be receiving this scholarship. I believe that this award represents something very profound: the fact that a legacy, especially one as impactful as that of Anne Beaty, has the power to inspire change for years to come. The existence of this memorial scholarship is a testament to the kind of person Anne was: one that was steadfast in her commitment to journalism, and someone who possessed a deep valuation of education.

Anne was a pillar of journalistic integrity, as well as a cherished member of our community here in Airdrie. By receiving this award, I feel connected to a very admirable legacy, and inspired to pay it forward through my future studies. The values represented by this award, mainly those of distinction, professionalism, and literary excellence, will surely guide me towards academic success. And of course, the scholarship itself grants me the ability to focus on my studies, engage more deeply in practical experiences, and dedicate myself to honing my skills. I am committed to making the most of this opportunity, not only for my own personal growth, but also to honour the privilege you have granted me.”

Anne’s daughters Kate Vogelar and Sarah Christie selected Brielle for her excellent writing and they are both excited to see where her future takes her.

The Anne Beaty Scholarship is for a post secondary student who is passionate about the written word and/or volunteerism and is open to high school students across Alberta. The 2025 scholarship application is now open. Apply now!

The Anne Beaty Memorial Scholarship was created in 2017 by airdrielife publisher Sherry Shaw-Froggatt and Anne’s daughters in memory of Beaty, who was part of the aridrielife family from 2010 to 2016. Beaty lived in Airdrie for more than 20 years, working in the media for much of that time, as well as at the Airdrie Public Library.
