Winter in Alberta can feel long, quiet, and a little too “cooped up” but for one afternoon in February, Airdrie is turning your cabin fever into a celebration. On February 14, residents are invited to bundle up and head out for Cabin Fever, a free, family-friendly festival designed to help shake off the winter blues and bring the community together. Running from 1 to 4 p.m., the fourth annual event will unfold across two locations this year: Nose Creek Regional Park and the new Airdrie Public Library building, Inspire.
“Attendees can look forward to shaking off the winter blues and reconnecting as a community,” says Kendal Masson, event services coordinator at the City of Airdrie.
“This year’s Cabin Fever event will take place across two fantastic locations offering a mix of indoor and outdoor fun.”
Residents can expect a lively afternoon filled with activities for all ages. Outdoor highlights at Nose Creek Park include horse-drawn wagon rides, fireside treats with complimentary hot dogs and warm beverages, and a visit from the Canadian Maple Shack serving maple taffy on fresh snow. Roving puppets from Green Fools, including Walter the Great White Wapiti and a whimsical white rabbit, will add a playful and photo-worthy element to the day.
“It’s a fun, family friendly day packed with activities, entertainment and real community connection,” says Masson.
“It’s a great chance to get out of the house, meet neighbours and enjoy something lively and memorable.”
Inside Inspire, guests can warm up while taking part in winter-themed crafts hosted by local artists, face painting by Artist Calgary, and interactive science activities from TELUS Spark. Color Club will also be on site creating personalized caricatures, offering families a fun keepsake to remember the day.
“Cabin Fever 2026 will embrace everything wintery and cozy,” says Masson.
A strong focus on community connection continues to shape the event. Guests will have the opportunity to take part in Indigenous games and teachings, highlighting culture, knowledge sharing, and inclusivity. Music lovers can enjoy performances by emerging Airdrie musicians, bringing fresh local talent to the Cabin Fever atmosphere.
Designed to appeal to everyone from young families to adults looking for a mid-winter outing, Cabin Fever offers something for every age and interest.
While you are downtown, discover pop-up vendors paired with your favourite local business, sweet surprises, and one-of-a-kind finds at the Airdrie Cocoa Trail. Centered around the cozy allure of hot chocolate and infused with Valentine’s Day charm, Cocoa Trail Downtown invites the community to discover unique matches and fall in love with local businesses from 10 am to 5 pm. Celebrate the season of love by shopping local, sipping hot cocoa, and supporting your community.
Cocoa Trail is a self-guided experience, and no street closures will be in effect. Participating locations will display a poster with a QR code linking to a map to help you navigate while on the trail.
Residents are encouraged to plan ahead for both events, as parking is limited. Attendees are advised to use Airdrie Transit, walk, or carpool where possible.
Details and updates for both events will be posted on the City of Airdrie website at airdrie.ca.
