Two local organizations doing good things in our community

Winter 2024/25

Halloween fundraiser at Iron Horse Park

The weather was above seasonal for late October and 812 people turned up for train trips. It was good to see many guests and AMES volunteers dressed in costume. The Airdrie Food Bank was the recipient of revenue collected from journeys and non-perishable food donations given in-lieu of paying for trips. Altogether the Airdrie Food Bank received the equivalent of $3,347 from the event ($913 in cash and $2434 in value for 680 lbs of food).

This was the third such fund raiser event we have held in 2024. And with the help from the Airdrie community, in all, we donated the equivalent of over $7,600 in cash and food in 2024. We plan to have more events like this in 2025 so stay tuned.

Airdrie Knight’s 8th Dream Vacation takes flight

The Airdrie Knights of Columbus Council 8045 received its charter in 1982. Since that time, the Council has been actively involved in supporting many charities in church and community in the Airdrie area. Presently the council has 212 members and meet regularly at St. Paul’s Parish Hall.

What We Do: We are proud to bring back the Airdrie Dream Vacation Raffle for the 8th year. This incredible fundraiser supports a variety of local initiatives including Habitat for Humanity, Airdrie Food Bank, Veterans Food Bank, Airdrie and District Hospice Society, Airdrie Power, Special Olympics, Alberta Cancer Foundation, Rocky View Foundation, Meals on Wheels, St Paul’s Parish, local schools and many more. In fact, over 35 charities receive support from the local council of the Knights of Columbus.

This past year over 13500 pounds of food was donated to the Veterans Food Bank and dollar value of $38,074 was donated to the Airdrie Food Bank. The Knights also help with pancake breakfasts in local schools for Shrove Tuesday and opening school barbecues.

Since the Dream Vacation Raffle started over $120,000 has been given to charities we support. The funds to provide financial support to charity come from our Dream Vacation Raffle and this is the eighth consecutive year conducting this main fundraising program.

Other programs: The Council members also conduct many programs throughout each fraternal year such as Coats for Kids and this year alone collected 325 coats to be distributed to those in need, 40 Cans for Lent project, Basketball Free Throw, special barbecues for schools, and run a phenomenally successful Gift Card program to mention a few.
