The Airdrie Chamber of Commerce (ACC) is hosting a municipal forum so residents can hear from the mayoral and councillor candidates running in the upcoming City of Airdrie election.

The virtual event will take place on Oct. 5 from 7 to 9 pm and will include a short introduction from each of the candidates. The ACC will be asking candidates prepared questions based on the Vote Prosperity business platform developed by the Alberta Chamber of Commerce.

“The Chamber is a bipartisan organization that encourages our members and the community as a whole to be informed while voting in all elections,” says Marilyne Aalhus, executive director of the ACC.

“We host political forums so that we and the public can ask questions that pertain directly to economic prosperity using the Alberta Chamber of Commerce – Vote Prosperity platform. ”

Residents who are interested in asking a question of their own at the online forum can do so by clicking here and submitting their answer by Oct. 4.

“This event is online so that everyone can attend from the comfort of their device,” Aalhus adds.

“We encourage all citizens to be informed when voting. This forum is an opportunity to hear directly from the candidates and ask your own questions. You will see their reactions to each other and in general have an opportunity to see how they conduct themselves while answering challenging questions.”

She adds that every vote makes a difference and an informed vote makes an even greater difference.

“By attending these types of events and staying informed, you should be able to go to the polls on Oct. 18 with confidence that you have done your research on the candidate that best represents you and your beliefs,” says Aalhus

The event is open to people of all ages, including youth who would like to learn more about politics and our democratic system.

According to Aalhus, all three mayoral candidates and 12 council candidates have RSVPed to participate in the event.
