Airdrie Animal Services Centre brings more pets home

Story by City of Airdrie

Summer 2026

A new City-run facility in Airdrie is helping reunite lost pets with their owners.

The Airdrie Animal Services Centre, operated by Airdrie Municipal Enforcement, provides short-term care for lost and stray animals. Residents can reclaim pets, drop off stray animals and purchase licences at the Centre during regular hours. After hours, Municipal Enforcement remains available for animal intake and reclamation by calling ahead.

The facility, located at 2 East Lake Way N.E., is part of a long-term approach to animal care as Airdrie continues to grow. The City manages intake and temporary care, with animals being transferred to local non-profits for adoption services if a pet remains unclaimed. Designed to provide consistent service and clear processes for residents, the Centre helps animals receive appropriate care until they are reunited with their owners.

“Licensing remains one of the most effective tools for returning pets home quickly. Animals with up-to-date identification can often be reunited with their owners without extended stays,” says Brad Tomlinson, team leader of Municipal Enforcement.

The Centre also supports public awareness around responsible pet ownership, including licensing requirements and basic care practices for cats and dogs. These efforts aim to reduce the number of animals that become lost or require intervention.

With the Centre, the City of Airdrie hopes to help improve response to stray-animal calls across the community. It also provides a clear point of contact for residents who are unsure what to do when they encounter a lost animal. Found animals will be posted on the Centre’s Facebook page at facebook.com/airdrieanimalservices. The page is set up to help reunite owners with their lost pets more efficiently.

While the facility focuses on enforcement and care, its day-to-day impact is practical. Staff oversee animal intake, assess their condition and work to identify owners as quickly as possible. In many cases, that means pets are returned home within a short period of time.

The Centre reflects a shift toward more coordinated animal services in Airdrie, combining municipal oversight with community partnerships to meet growing demand.
