Fall has officially arrived, bringing crisp autumn air, vibrant leaves, and one of the region’s most beloved seasonal traditions. On October 10, Blue Grass Nursery will host its 23rd Annual Pumpkin Fest at its Balzac location from 11 am to 3 pm.
The event promises a full afternoon of family-friendly entertainment, lively activities, and community spirit in support of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation.
“It’s a fun fall day for families and a chance for our community to come together in support of the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation,” says Lorenza Morden, marketing manager at Blue Grass Nursery.
“Our goal this year is $35,000. We’re grateful for every ticket purchase, donation, auction bid and other contribution that helps us get there.”
Over its more than two-decade history, Pumpkin Fest has raised more than $350,000 for the cause. Funds raised support the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation and its work for children and families who rely on care at the facility.
With Pumpkin Fest typically welcoming more than 3,000 people, visitors can look forward to another great turnout and an action-packed lineup. Families can enjoy traditional hayrides, carriage rides, pony rides, a petting zoo, a straw maze, face painting, pumpkin carving, and new games. Curious young attendees can explore vehicles brought on-site by members of the Canadian military.
“We have an especially diverse lineup of vendors this year, along with new games and two inflatable obstacle courses,” says Morden.
For those seeking friendly competition, the event features a hot pepper eating contest, a pie eating contest, and a scarecrow building contest. Kids can also win prizes in the scavenger hunt, jellybean contest, and colouring contest.
“Pumpkin Fest is a community effort,” adds Morden.
“We hope everyone will join us on October 10 and help make our 23rd year the best one yet!”
In addition, 37 local vendors, including food vendors, businesses, and makers, will form a lively market.
“The vendor market gives families another way to enjoy the day and support the people who help make this event possible,” says Morden.
Guests can also browse the online silent auction or buy tickets for the 50/50 raffle for a chance to take home half the prize pot.
“The highlight each year is always the giant pumpkin drop!” says Morden.
“We hoist a giant pumpkin high into the air, drop it onto a car and watch it smash into pieces. It’s the moment everyone gathers to see, and the crowd’s reaction is half the fun.”
Admission is $10, with activities included. Tickets are available at bluegrassnursery.com/pumpkin-fest-2026.
