Have you ever considered growing your own food in Airdrie?
Two community gardens in the city are managed by the Airdrie Horticultural Society, a non-profit organization run by gardening enthusiasts. One garden is located in the Monklands fields area, another one is in the Lanark community, and both gardens are used by the members of the society.
The Airdrie Horticultural Society serves to inspire, build community, and promote the enjoyment of gardening through memberships and by providing space where individuals and families can grow their own food.
Every year, we open our doors to the community at large to showcase the hard work of our gardeners and what can be achieved in the Airdrie climate, and to encourage others to try their hand at gardening.
While growing decorative and edible gardens can be tough in our climate, we encourage everyone to give it a try! The society also holds educational events in town to increase knowledge of horticulture in our community.
Gardens under Airdrie Horticultural Society management are also home to a program called Grow To Give, where we work closely with the Airdrie Food Bank to provide fresh, garden-grown vegetables to the members of our community.

We use spare space in the garden, as well as encourage garden members to donate their extra produce to yield seasonal and fresh produce that we later donate to the food bank. In 2025, gardeners donated 2,709 lbs of fresh produce.
We strive to foster environmental sustainability by encouraging the creation of eco-friendly, bee-friendly gardens, reducing our impact on the environment and municipal resources, and promoting the health and well-being of residents in our community, and we encourage you to give gardening a try!
