Art, community, and compassion are coming together in Airdrie for a meaningful autumn tradition. On September 26 from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm, the Airdrie Food Bank will host its highly anticipated Empty Bowls Arts Festival.

Designed as a welcoming, family-friendly event, the festival features musicians, artists, children’s activities, a silent auction, and a free soup lunch. All proceeds raised during the gathering directly support the Airdrie Food Bank, providing emergency food support to local individuals and families.
“Empty Bowls is one of the Airdrie Food Bank’s signature community events,” says Christine Arsenault, marketing and communications manager with the Airdrie Food Bank.
“It brings people together through food, art and entertainment while raising awareness about food insecurity and showcasing the work of the Airdrie Food Bank. Guests can enjoy complimentary soup from local restaurants, live music, family activities and handmade pottery bowls available for purchase.”
Arsenault explains that Empty Bowls has been a long-standing tradition at the Airdrie Food Bank, rooted in an internationally recognized concept that uses art and food to bring communities together to raise awareness about hunger and food insecurity.
Funds raised directly support the Airdrie Food Bank and its work providing essential food and food supports to individuals and families in the community. While fundraising is critical, the heart of the event lies in connection and shared purpose.
“Our focus this year is really on bringing the community together, raising awareness about food insecurity and showcasing the impact of community support,” adds Arsenault.
“Every contribution helps us continue our work throughout the year.”
To make this year’s gathering even more impactful, organizers have introduced new elements for attendees to enjoy and participate in.
“This year we’re adding a Soup Can Drive to kick off soup season,” says Arsenault.
“We’re asking guests to bring a can — or two — of their favourite soup to help stock our shelves for the cooler months. We also have a wonderful collection of hand-painted bowls created by local artists and community members for our Painted Bowl Auction.”
The one-of-a-kind bowls in the auction are created by local artists and community members.
“It’s wonderful to see people come together to admire the creativity and find a bowl they love,” says Arsenault.
