An arborist is a trained professional who plants, cares for, and maintains trees safely. Good tree care adds value and reduces risk; poor maintenance can create hazards.
Like a family doctor or veterinarian are general experts in their fields, arborists need broad knowledge as well as an understanding of the needs, growth patterns, and risks of different trees and shrubs. Certified arborists provide expert advice on what to plant, where to plant it, and how to care for it, and may work as climbers, equipment operators, researchers, or consultants.
Tree care is an investment: healthy trees improve appearance and property value, while neglected trees can become liabilities. Pruning and removal—especially of large trees—should be done only by trained, properly equipped professionals.
