Government of Canada announces $24.8 million investment in Airdrie

Spring 2024

On March 5, 2024, The Government of Canada awarded the City of Airdrie $24.8 million through the Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF). HAF was created in spring 2023 to help local governments increase diverse housing options for residents.

Today’s announcement will help fast track over 900 homes in the next three years, and more than 3,500 over the next decade. By working with cities, mayors, Indigenous partners, and all levels of government, we are helping to get more homes built for Canadians at prices they can afford.

– The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities

“On behalf of the City of Airdrie, I want to express my appreciation in being awarded funding from the Government of Canada’s HAF program. I am hopeful this will enable our community to address concerns around diverse market housing availability in our community. This investment will be critical in our ongoing efforts in tackling housing availability challenges, ensuring that all residents have access to housing options that meets their needs and is achievable on their income.”

“As the City moves forward, we are committed to transparency and collaboration with our stakeholders to ensure we are creating a future that benefits all residents.”

– Mayor Peter Brown

Background information:

• Airdrie’s 2024 HOUSING NEEDS ASSESSMENT shows there is a significant gap in housing diversity and is putting pressure on Airdrie’s families, young adults, and seniors to find housing that meets their needs.

• Single-parent households and single individuals are some of the most in-need people who require diverse housing options.
