Former City of Airdrie Councillor and current Rockyview School Trustee, Fred Burley, and his wife Sharon have had their world turned upside down as their adult daughter Katie has been diagnosed with an incredibly rare form of cancer. CIC – Rearranged Sarcoma. At less than 1%, it equates to only 200 world-wide confirmed diagnosis.
The Burleys are well known in the city their years of community giving and support, but now the rallying is personal.
Fred will be shaving his head May 25th and he and Sharon are using this opportunity to raise awareness and funds for research.
Funds are currently being raised through the Canadian Cancer Society site and on May 25th at 1861 Local Bar & Grill, Fred will shave his head in Katie’s honour. The person who makes the largest donation will get to do the shaving. The event occurs from 6 – 9 p.m. with the shaving at 8 p.m.
The Burley family’s goal is to not only help their daughter, but the monies raised may just be a contributing factor in finding a cure. Join the fight for Katie by donating here.
