It’s not the first time an entertainer has made the leap from performance to politics, but for Lawrence Gervais, president of the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, it’s practically a literal one.

On February 17, 2020, John Langeneau got the call that’s every parent’s worst nightmare – his 19-year-old son, Kalix, wasn’t coming home. Though the first hours and days were difficult, the family stood strong, with John and his wife, Betina Fillion, making the decision to honour Kalix’s memory.
