Those first four notes have stuck in the ears of Western civilization for over 200 years! The essence of Beethoven’s genius was that he could take the simplest building blocks of the classical style and construct radically new\, monumental works.\nFamous from its use in cartoons\, Morning Mood is the first of four movements that make up Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 and was written to depict the sun rising in the Moroccan desert.\nFinlandia was composed in 1899 and premiered in the composer’s native Finland\, reaching an international audience the following year. The central melody is sometimes sung—with words not original to Sibelius—as the hymn “Be Still\, My Soul.”

From the varied scenes along the Moldau’s route to the 5 exciting vistas in Horwood’s National Park Suite. \n\nForillon National Park (Québec)\nBryce Canyon National Park (Utah)\nFathom Five Marine Park (Ontario)\nYellowstone National Park (Wyoming)\nJasper National Park (Alberta)\n\nWhen Dvorak came to America in 1892\, the Pledge of Allegiance was new. So were Carnegie Hall\, the game of basketball and Edison’s wax cylinders. Classical music in America wasn’t new — but it needed a reboot. Already a celebrated composer in Europe\, Dvorak was hired to run the National Conservatory of Music in New York to help American composers find their own voices and shake off the European sound. \nDvorak was surprised\, in a way\, to find that the roots of American music were not European\, they were African-American. \n“If the New World Symphony remains the most beloved symphony composed on American soil\, I think that’s because in the sadness and poignance of this work we recognize\, however subliminally\, an act of empathy –- Dvorak’s empathy for the African-American\, born in slavery\, and for the Native American\, facing extinction.” \nProgram\n🇨🇿 SMETANA The Moldau\n🇨🇦 HORWOOD National Parks Suite \n🇨🇿 DVOŘÁK Symphony #9 (From the New World) \n
