SUMMARY:Gordon Lightfoot Tribute Band
DESCRIPTION:Fans of Gordon Lightfoot are invited to a special evening at the Polaris Theatre\, as singer-songwriter artist John Paul Byrne pays tribute to the legendary Gordon Lightfoot in his much-lauded “If You Could Read My Mind: The Gordon Lightfoot Tribute Show.” Byrne\, known for his uncanny ability to channel Lightfoot’s rich baritone and poignant storytelling\, promises an experience that feels like stepping back into the intimate concert halls of the 1970s. \nHaving captivated audiences across the Okanagan with sold-out performances\, the Lightfoot Tribute Show has been celebrated for its authenticity and emotional depth\, drawing comparisons to Lightfoot’s original performances. One reviewer noted\, “It’s as if Gordon Lightfoot himself is on stage\, sharing the songs that defined an era.” From beloved classics like “Beautiful” and “Early Morning Rain” to the evocative ballad “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald\,” Byrne’s performance is a heartfelt homage to one of Canada’s greatest musical icons. \n

SUMMARY:RMSO: Greatest Hits! Featuring Beethoven's 5th Symphony
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to a Greatest Hits! \nIf you don’t like Classical Music\, you’ll LOVE this show! \nSaturday\, March 23\, 2023 – 7:30pm\nThe Polaris Theatre \nThis concert features top audience favourites; some of the most iconic music of all time! \nProgramme \n🇩🇪 WAGNER Lohengrin (Prelude to Act 3)\n🇳🇴 GRIEG Peer Gynt Suite #1\n🇫🇮 SIBELIUS Finlandia \n🇩🇪 BEETHOVEN Symphony #5 “Fate” \nWhat’s Interesting About This Concert \n\nDu-du-du-duuuuhhhh. Beethoven obsessively pursues those first four notes—the entire first movement (and much of the others) is derived from them. Those first four notes have stuck in the ears of Western civilization for over 200 years! The essence of Beethoven’s genius was that he could take the simplest building blocks of the classical style and construct radically new\, monumental works.\nFamous from its use in cartoons\, Morning Mood is the first of four movements that make up Peer Gynt Suite No. 1 and was written to depict the sun rising in the Moroccan desert.\nFinlandia was composed in 1899 and premiered in the composer’s native Finland\, reaching an international audience the following year. The central melody is sometimes sung—with words not original to Sibelius—as the hymn “Be Still\, My Soul.”
