A Truth that honors Survivors\, their families and communities\, and those who never made it home from residential school. \n\nThis is even more important as we approach the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.\nTo that end\, we invite Airdrie and area community members to join us at Bert Church Theatre on Sunday\, September 29 for a powerful film screening of “Muffins for Granny\,” directed by Nadia McLaren\, an award-winning filmmaker whose work honors her grandmother and explores the legacy of Indian Residential Schools.\nFollowing the film\, Nadia will lead a workshop that begins with a Medicine Wheel teaching\, guiding us through meaningful discussions on the community’s role in the work of Reconciliation.\nAdmission is FREE for First Nations\, Métis and Inuit Peoples however you do need to register. We’ve also got special gifts for attendees to take home. \nAmy Hef will grace our stage to perform. The Country Music Alberta Horizon Female Artist of the Year has Airdrie roots herself. \nA first for us this year is the presentation of an Honorary Amazing Airdrie Woman award. Late last year\, Leslie Horton\, anchor with Global Calgary\, went viral for her takedown of a rude and downright mean message she received from a viewer that attacked her appearance. Leslie’s reaction was honest and full of grace. Her reaction impressed me so much\, we reached out to her and\, much to our delight\, she accepted. We look forward to hearing from Leslie at our gala.
